Anweshippin Kandethum Movie Review:
In a way now all Indian movie lovers are showing interest in Malayalam cinema. Accordingly, the makers are also trying their best to provide interesting content from time to time.
And so he came to the audience with an investigative thriller titled Unveshippin Kandetum under the direction of new director Darwin Kuriakos. This movie starring Tovino Thomas who is close to Telugu audience with Minnal Murali has got good talk in Malayalam. And now this movie is streaming on netflix. Now let’s see how this movie is in the review.
Story:
1990 Anand Narayan (Tovino Thomas) works as a sub-inspector in Kottayam district of Kerala. But when a young girl named Lovely is reported missing in the area of the station where he works, Anand and his team catch the culprit along with the evidence. A small mistake will get the whole team suspended even after working so hard. The SP who called the suspended team will hand over the Sridevi murder case six years ago to this team. Did Anand’s team solve this case in order to fix that the whole town should not cooperate with the police? What problems did they face while solving? Such is the story of Anveshippan Kandatum. You have to watch the movie to know that.
Analysis:
A police investigation thriller is a genre that every moviegoer enjoys watching. Many movies have already been released in Malayalam in this genre. But Tovino Thomas’ Unveshippin Kandethum movie ‘Avnaashipil’ is a different crime thriller. It can be said that the film continues to engage the audience till the end and it is a big success of the film. It has two cases in the same movie, it seems interesting to trace two murders like watching two movies on the same ticket. How did the police solve two unrelated crimes in Anweshippin Kandetum? It feels gripping. As the investigation took place in the early 1990s, there was little evidence other than forensics and some custodial interrogation to help solve the crimes. Moreover, the film sheds light on the politics of the police department and other related issues such as law enforcement – the general public’s perception of the police. And for an investigative thriller to be successful, a strong script is essential, and Jinu Abraham delivers in this film’s case.
Also, it’s a plus point that the film stops relying on mass appeal or unnecessary buildups and focuses entirely on investigation. The tragedy of the hero’s personal life, usually seen in investigative thrillers, is deliberately avoided in this film. At the same time, as the film’s title suggests, Anveshipin is not only about the investigation, but also about the investigating officers. Without eye-popping gimmicks, ear-splitting music or shocking twists, Darwin’s point will appeal to everyone. It’s a good effort in an age of thrillers that only focus on crime and criminal.
Actors/ Artist:
Tovino delivers a brilliant performance as Anand Narayanan, a young police officer dedicated to uncovering the truth. In both stories, we may not connect emotionally with the victims but it is interesting that the investigations take place from an outsider’s perspective. In this movie, Vineeth Tattle David, Indrans, Siddique, Harishree Ashok, Shammi Thilakan and many other actors acted in important roles. All of them have given commendable performances. As far as the technical team is concerned, Anveshipin is Tamil music director Santhosh Narayanan’s first Malayalam film. Santhosh Narayanan, without trying to show his genius, gave whatever the film demanded. Santhosh’s music is refreshingly different from the regular patterns. Girish Gangadharan’s cinematography is also very good. Girish understood the soul of the film and completed his work. The effort taken by the film’s art team and costume department to recreate the period of 1980-90 is commendable.
Finally:
This is a must watch movie for those who love investigative thriller movies. It will also impress the family audience.
