COVID-19 Lockdown 24 March:
Today is the fourth anniversary of the lockdown in the country. Four years ago on this day, PM Narendra Modi had announced a ‘lockdown’ to stop the increasing spread of the corona virus (Covid-19).
The corona virus, which started from Wuhan in China, had engulfed the whole world in no time.
Sensing the possible consequences of the deadly spread of the Covid-19 virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared it a global pandemic on 11 March 2020. This virus had isolated the people and countries of the world from each other.
Two weeks later, on 24 March 2020, PM Narendra Modi, the first in the international community, announced a nationwide lockdown. After which people were imprisoned in their homes. People who had left their villages and gone to other cities for livelihood, walked back to their homes. For many months, the lives of people in the country were confined to their homes and there was silence in the streets and markets.
A total of 4,50,33,332 cases were registered in India and 5,33,537 people have died. The US leads the world with 11,17,27,592 cases and the highest number of deaths at 12,18,464, which is more than double that of India. A total of 70,43,18,936 infections have been reported in the world so far and 70,07,114 people have died.
When the world was grappling with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Haj pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia was also stopped. At the same time, the Ramadan Street food market of the iconic Mohammed Ali Road in Mumbai remained closed for the first time in its nearly 250-year-old history for the entire month.
Due to the pandemic, air travel in the country and the world was also stopped. Apart from this, shopping activity was replaced by online shopping on a large scale, employees working in offices were allowed to work from home. People were barred from going to mosques to offer prayers. People offered prayers at home. At the same time, people did puja at home instead of going to the temple. Apart from this, people of other religions also followed the lockdown and prayed at home. Let us tell you that in May 2023, WHO had announced the end of the pandemic.
