A miracle has happened in the history of Test cricket. Sri Lankan spin bowling all-rounder Kamindu Mendis has created history as the only player to bat at positions lower than seven and score centuries in two innings in a single Test.

Kamindu recorded this amazing record in the ongoing match against Bangladesh. No player before Kamindu had achieved this feat in more than 150 years of Test cricket.

As part of the two-match series, Kamindu scored a century (102) in the first innings of the first Test against Bangladesh at Sylhet. There is another achievement in this match. Lankan captain Dhananjaya D’Silva also scored centuries in two innings of this match. Dhananjaya batted at number six in two innings and scored centuries. Dhananjaya, who scored 102 runs in the first innings, was dismissed after scoring 108 runs in the second innings.

As for the match, Sri Lanka batted first and were bowled out after scoring 280 runs in the first innings with centuries from Dhananjaya and Kamindu. Apart from these two, none of them could perform well in the Lankan innings. After starting the first innings, Bangladesh collapsed to 188 runs after Vishwa Fernando (4/48), Rajitha (3/56) and Lahiru Kumara (3/31) exploded. Taijul Islam (47) was the top scorer in the Bangla innings.

Sri Lanka started the second innings with a lead of 92 runs. At teatime on the third day, Sri Lanka scored 338 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and continued to lead by 430 runs. Along with Dhananjaya and Kamindu, Karunaratne (52) also excelled in Lanka’s second innings.
