Where do tomatoes grow the most?
Mainly grown in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. These states contribute fifty percent of the country’s total production. Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Haryana, West Bengal, Bihar and Telangana account for 40 percent of tomato production. Tomato is grown as a spring and fall crop. Generally, fallow is grown between March to August. Monsoon crop is harvested from September. In Maharashtra and some parts of Himachal Pradesh, tomatoes are grown during the rainy season. 90 percent of the summer crop is grown in Madanapally in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the information, tomato production is decreasing from 2020 onwards. Tomato production was 21,187 million Tonnes in 2019-2020 but it has come down to 20.69 million Tonnes in 2020-2021. It has falls to 20.62 million Tonnes in 2022-2023 as well.
