The same is happening in IPL 2024. Even though 54 league matches have already ended, these are 9 other teams in the race except Mumbai Indians.
IPL 2024 Playoffs Teams

All but two teams have played 11 matches in IPL 2024 on Sunday (May 5). Sunrisers will play their 11th match on Monday (May 6). Still not a single team has qualified for the playoffs. Even though Rajasthan Royals came close, they still have to wait and see with a one-run defeat at the hands of Sunrisers. Currently, KKR is at the top win 16 points in 11 matches. Mumbai is in the last position with only three wins in 11 matches.

Mumbai Indians playoffs chances are almost non-existent. Virtually, the remaining 9 teams are in the race for four playoff spots. And how is the condition of any of these teams? Here’s a look at who will make the playoffs.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals won out 8 out of 10 matches. Four more matches are left. A win in either of these will guarantee a playoffs berth. The last four matches are against Delhi, Chennai, Punjab and Kolkata. A win against Delhi on Tuesday (May 7) will see Royals into the playoffs. The Royals have the best playoff chances in the current situation.

Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders have won 8 and lost 3 out of 11 matches. Currently on top. Their net run rate is better than all other teams. The team still has to play against Mumbai, Gujarat and Rajasthan. With a better net run rate, at least one of these three wins is sure to make the playoffs. KKR’s win over Gujarat might be a bit easier.

Chennai Super Kings

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings have won 6 and lost five out of 11 matches. On Sunday (May 5) they regained the third spot with a win over Punjab Kings. The team still has to play against Gujarat, Rajasthan and RCB. But at least two out of three must be won. If so, we can hope for the playoffs regardless of the results of the other teams.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers are currently in the fourth position with six wins from 10 matches. They have 12 points. They will play against Mumbai Indians on Monday (May 6). Apart from this there are matches against Lucknow, Gujarat and Punjab. Being at their home ground for the last three matches will come together for them. At least two of these four should be won for sure.

Lucknow Supergiants

Lucknow dropped out of the top 4 after a heavy defeat at the hands of KKR on Sunday (May 5). the team has won 6 and lost 5 out of 11 matches and is in fifth place. The net run rate is also negative. With this, in the last three matches against Sunrisers, Delhi and Mumbai, they will have to achieve huge victories at least in two. But the fact that these three are on the opposing grounds is a disadvantage for the team.

Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have had an incredible mid-season run. The team won 5 and lost 6 out of 11 matches. The last three matches are to be played against Rajasthan, RCB and Lucknow. If these three win, they have to expect favorable results from the rest of the teams.

Royal Challengers Bangalore.

RCB’s playoffs hopes are flickering with a hat-trick of wins. But it is not easy at all. The team won four and lost seven out of 11 matches. The remaining three matches are to be played against Punjab, Delhi and Chennai. Three must win. If so, it will go to 14 points. Even then, the results of the rest of the teams will depend on their net run rate.

Punjab Kings.

Punjab Kings’ playoff hopes were dashed with a defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings. That team also won only 4 and lost 7 out of 11 matches. The remaining three matches are to be played against RCB, Rajasthan and Sunrisers. Must win in all three. But it is not easy at all. Even if they win, they have to depend on the other teams’ wins.

Gujarat Titans

Last year’s finalists Gujarat Titans won 4 and lost 7 out of 11 matches. The team has to play against Chennai, KKR and Sunrisers in the last three matches. Three must win. The net run rate is also not good, so not only do they get huge wins, but they have to rely on the results of the other teams.
