Kolkata is enjoying the IPL 17 season. Kolkata scored a super victory by 18 runs in a thrilling match against Mumbai Indians.
As a result, KKR became the first team to qualify for the playoffs with 18 points.
The 20 over match was reduced to 16 overs by Costa due to early rain. Batting first in the match which started late, Kolkata scored 157 runs and set a target of 158 runs for the opposition team Mumbai. Mumbai failed to achieve this goal. In the scheduled 16 overs, the Mumbai team was bowled out for 139 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.
Mumbai opener Ishan Kishan (40) excelled with runs, but in 6.5 overs, Sunil Narine’s delivery was caught by Rinku Singh, who was about to play a shot. After that, Rohit Sharma (19) who came to the crease got his hands on the runs. Mumbai 67 in 7.5 overs Rohit reached the pavilion after taking a catch to Sunil Narine off a ball bowled by Varun Chakraborty.
Among the other players, Tilak Verma (32) seemed to have no problem with the runs. Naman Deer (17) and Surya Kumar Yadav (11) scored runs. Captain Hardik Pandya (2) reached single digits. Tim David did not open an account. Nehal Vadera (3: run out), Anshul Kamboj (2 not out) and Piyush Chawla (1not out) managed poor performances to settle for single digits.
Kolkata bowlers Harshit rana, Varun Chakraborty and Andre Russell took 2 wickets each while Sunil Narine took one wicket. Varun Chakraborty (2/17) who masterminded Mumbai’s collapse was awarded player of the Match.
