Floods have created havoc in Manipur. Four people died due to heavy rains and floods caused by Cyclone Remal. 13 others were injured. Millions of people have been affected by floods

Manipur under flood threat 

Due to Cyclone Remal, incessant rains for the past week have caused massive floods across the northeastern Started. Water levels in most of the rivers flowing from Imphal city are rising rapidity.

Manipur floods 2024: According to a local newspaper of Imphal… from May 28 to May 31 five people died consecutively. According to the latest information released by the Relief and Disaster Management Department on Friday evening, a total of 1,26,950 people has been affected in 255 villages/ areas in the state.16,364 houses were damaged. 20,504 people trapped in floods were evacuated. 522 hectares of crop areas were lost. 292 landslides occurred in last three days in many parts of hilly districts. An official report said that 51 relief camps have been opened for the victims.

Since Sunday the water levels in most of the rivers flowing through Imphal have risen rapidly. the two major rivers are already overflowing in many parts of Imphal East and West districts.

Manipur floods death toll: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed in Imphal West and Imphal East districts, Air Force, Navy and Army have been deployed in Imphal West district. Relied materials were distributed in various flood affected areas including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, jeroboam, Noni, Tame ling, Chandel, Chiura Chandpur, Senapati, Kuching.

The Assam Rifles, deployed in the reuse mission, said that a total of 2,561 people, including 969 men, 992 women and 601 children, have been rescued so far.  Sixteen troops of the Assam Rifles distributed packed food to 2,050 people on 30 May and 3, 000 people on 31 May.

Floods in Manipur: Officials said that the water levels in the flood-affected areas around Imphal town are slowly receding. But while major market areas (MG Avenue, Tangle Bazar, Pana) are still under water, Nambol in Bishnupur district is the latest to join the flood affected list.  Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the flood affected Pana Bazaar in Imphal along with Vineet Joshi, chief Secretary of the State Government, on Friday evening.

Officials said that as part of precautionary measures, holidays have been announced for schools and colleges for two days.
