India Vs Pakistan head-to-head test
The time has come for the much-awaited match of the ICC 2024 T20 World Cup. Team India is all set taken on arch-rivals Pakistan at the Nassau Country International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, but both teams are taking to the field in different styles.
While the Rohit Sharma-led side secured a comfortable win over Ireland in their opening match on Wednesday, Pakistan suffered a crushing defeat against the United States in Dallas, losing in the Super Over, derailing their World Cup campaign.
Pakistan will be aiming to bounce back strongly and hope to repeat their heroics against India three years ago in Dubai. The impressive performance against Ireland has only left them with more concerns for their skipper, who fell victim to the latest injury during practice on Friday, just days after suffering a forearm injury during the game in New York.
What is the risk for India vs Pakistan in the match to be held in New York?
Both India and Pakistan are part of Group A in the 2024 T20 World Cup where the USA< one of the host countries of the tournament, surprisingly topped the points table after wins over Canada and Pakistan. These wins will definitely make them favorites to make it to the Super 8 round of the ICC event. Meanwhile, India won their first match against Ireland and finished second.
Hence, a win for Pakistan would keep their T20 World Cup campaign alive and perhaps encourage them to make it to the Super 8s by beating Ireland and Canada in their last two matches. Defeat, however, would mean a humiliating exit from the group-stage.
For India, a win could make them strong contenders to join the United Staes in advancing to the next round of the World Cup, but a loss before the match against co-hosts and Canada could deal a serious blow to their campaign.
Tough competition in T20 Cricket:
India and Pakistan have met 12 times in the international format, the first being the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, where the MS Dhoni-led side won by a bowl-out. Overall, India have registered eight wins against their arch-rivals but lost on three occasions. In their recent encounters, the two teams have shared victories in two of the four encounters in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.
A total of seven of their meetings in the format have been won the T20 World Cup, of which five have been won by India and one has ended in a draw. Pakistan’s only win over India in the history of the tournament came in October 2021, when captain Babar and fellow opener Mohammad Rizwan sealed a record 10-wicket win in their group-stage opener in Dubai.
