BCCI President Roger Binny on Rohit-Virat Retirement: BCCI President Roger Binny said that it will take two to three years for the Indian T20 team to compensate for the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Thirty-seven-year-old Rohit and 35-year-old Kohli bid farewell to this format after winning the T20 World Cup. Roger Binny said it will take years to fill the gap
Binny told the media after the final, “There is a lot of talent in IPL. Many cricketers are coming through it but it will take time to fill this gap (after the retirement of Rohit and Virat).” He said, “Both of them have contributed so much that it will take time. Only after the next two-three years will the team be able to fill this gap and stand up.” Binny, who was a member of the team that won the World Cup in 1983, said, “In 1983, we were the dark horses. After that, that tag was removed from us. We were always expected to win in the World Cup. Now no one takes us lightly.”

After scoring a challenging score of 176 runs for seven wickets, India stopped South Africa’s challenge at 169 runs for eight wickets. Hardik Pandya took three wickets for 20 runs and Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took two wickets each to finally make India the champion. India won the first T20 World Cup in 2007 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

India missed the title last year after losing to Australia in the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup final, but this time it remained undefeated throughout the tournament and won the title. Virat Kohli was declared the Player of the Match for his brilliant innings. Kohli announced his retirement from T20 after this victory.
The Indian team gave the winning gift of the World Cup to coach Rahul Dravid as a farewell. This World Cup was Dravid’s last tenure. A smile can be clearly seen on Dravid’s face. For South Africa, Heinrich Klaasen played an innings of 52 runs in just 27 balls with the help of two fours and five sixes. He was taking the victory away from India, but Hardik gave a big blow to South Africa’s hopes by getting Klaasen caught by wicketkeeper Pant. Bumrah broke South Africa’s back by bowling out Marco Jansen. Hardik put the match and the title in India’s bag by dismissing David Miller on the first ball of the 20th over and Kagiso Rabada on the fifth ball. South Africa, playing the World Cup final for the first time, lost its dream of becoming the world champion with this defeat.
