June Power Consumption
Due to the heat of the sun, Indians have used a lot of appliances like air conditioners and coolers. As a result, India’s electricity consumption rose by nearly 9 percent to 152.38 billion units (BU) in June.
According to official figures, electricity consumption in June 2023 was 140.27 billion units.
Peak supply (meeting peak power demand) in a day increased from 223.29 GW to 245.41 GW in June 2024. The peak power demand was recorded at 224.10 GW in June 2023. The peak electricity demand reached 250.20 gigawatts in the month of May this year. Earlier, the peak power demand of 243.27 GW was recorded in September 2023.
In June 2024, the Power Ministry estimates that the power demand will be 235 GW during the day and 225 GW during the evening hours. The ministry thinks the peak electricity demand could reach 260 gigawatts in summer.
Due to scorching sun and humidity at the end of June, people had to use cooling devices like air conditioners and coolers excessively. Due to this, electricity consumption has increased and the demand for electricity has also increased in the country.
Experts predict that power consumption will remain stable in the coming days. They said that the use of air conditioners is inevitable. But there is a chance of heavy rains in the next few days. This is likely to reduce the use of air conditioners and coolers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon over Rajasthan, Punjab and rest of Haryana in next 2-3 days. According to the latest bulletin released on Monday, Monsoon is likely to spread across the country in the next three days.
