IPL 2025 Mega Auction
The mega auction is going to be held this year before the start of the Indian Premier League 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may change the retention rule ahead of the upcoming mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
According to Cricbuzz, several franchises have requested to increase the number of players to be retained for the next three seasons. As expected, the opinions of the 10 franchises have been varied, but most have demanded more retention than last time.

As per the old rules, the BCCI allowed franchises to retain a maximum of four players, with the condition that there cannot be more than three Indian and two overseas players. The cricket board will take a final decision on the retention policy after meeting with the franchise owners later this month.
Salary cap may also increase
According to Cricbuzz, the CEOs of all the franchises have requested the BCCI to increase the salary cap. It was increased by 5% from IPL 2023 to 2024. Now, it is expected that we can see an increase of at least 10% before the IPL 2025 mega auction. If this happens, the limit can be 110 crores -120 crores. According to the rules of IPL, a franchise can buy 25 players (maximum 8 foreigners). This means that the teams will have Rs 110-120 crores to buy these players. Of course, some of these players will also be retained. The increase in the salary cap will give the franchises a chance to play freely at the auction table and they will not have to worry about their purse.
