Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the roadshow of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team in Mumbai on Thursday evening. A large number of fans are expected to gather to catch a glimpse of the players.

A police officer gave this information. The world champion Indian team, which will return to the country on Thursday morning, will take part in a road show in an open bus, after which there will be a felicitation ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium in South Mumbai.

The officer said on Wednesday that the victory march will be taken out from Nariman Point to Wankhede Stadium between 5 and 7 pm. He said that a large number of people are expected to gather for this program, so the police is taking extreme caution to avoid any untoward incident.

The officer said that adequate security arrangements are being made on Marine Drive between Nariman Point and Wankhede Stadium. Earlier, the Indian cricket team returned home from Barbados by a special plane. Amid continuous drizzle, fans welcomed the players warmly at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and during this time there was also heavy security so that the fans could not get close to the players.

The Indian team’s return from Barbados was delayed due to storm Beryl. “The team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 11 am. After that, the team will fly to Mumbai where a ceremony will be held,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla told PTI. “There will be a roadshow on an open bus from Nariman Point and later we will felicitate the players with the prize money of Rs 125 crore as announced,” he said. On Saturday, the Indian team gave the country its second T20 World Cup title, ending its 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. India had earlier won the Champions Trophy in 2013 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
