England defeated West Indies by an innings and 114 runs and bid farewell to James Anderson with a victory. West Indies’ second innings collapsed at just 136 runs in front of England bowlers.
In the second innings too, England’s fast bowler Gus Atkinson took 5 wickets. Apart from Atkinson, Anderson, who was playing his last test match, took 3 wickets. With this, his 22-year cricket career came to an end with 704 wickets.
Earlier, West Indies started the third day’s match with a score of 79 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. But the remaining four West Indies batsmen could only add 57 runs. West Indies’ second innings collapsed after scoring 136 runs and England won the match by 114 runs.
West Indies failed in the first innings too
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, West Indies’ team was also shattered in front of England bowlers in the first innings and collapsed on a score of only 121 runs. In the first innings too, Atkinson took 7 wickets for 45 runs. Michael Lewis scored the highest 27 runs for West Indies in this innings.
England took a lead of 250 runs in the first innings
In reply to 121 runs, England scored 371 runs in the first innings with the help of half-centuries from 5 batsmen and took a lead of 250 runs on the basis of the first innings. Jack Crowley scored the highest 76 runs for England. Apart from Crowley, Jamie Smith scored 70, Joe Root scored 68, Ollie Pope scored 57 and Harry Brook scored 50 runs. For West Indies, Jaden Seals took 4 wickets and Holder and Moti took 2-2 wickets each. The second match of the 3-match Test series will be played at Trent Bridge from July 18.
