AGR dues
The Supreme Court on Monday heard arguments on listing for consideration a plea of a telecom company seeking rectification of alleged errors in its Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra heard the arguments of senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for telecom company Vodafone Idea. Salve said that this petition needs to be considered.
The Chief Justice said, “I will look into it.” The telecom company said that the curative petition filed against the dismissal of previous petitions seeking correction of alleged errors in AGR dues has not yet been listed for hearing before the bench. To this, the Chief Justice said, “I will look into it.” Along with this, he asked whether any email has been sent in this regard.
Attention was given to the arguments of some companies last year
On October 9 last year, the apex court had taken note of the arguments of some telecom companies, seeking listing of their petitions on the issue of AGR dues payable in lieu of spectrum allocation. The telecom companies had said that the Department of Telecommunications made some mistakes in the calculation of AGR which was more than Rs 1 lakh crore.
The total liability of Vodafone Idea Limited was Rs 58,254 crore and that of Bharti Airtel was Rs 43,980 crore. Earlier, the apex court had given 10 years to telecom companies to repay their dues to the government.
