With the start of the three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka, Team India is all set to enter a new era under the guidance of former batsman Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir, who is known for his aggressive attitude, will start his coaching tenure with the upcoming white ball series against Sri Lanka. After Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended with India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, everyone is eager to see India’s performance under Gambhir’s supervision. Under the coach of Rahul Dravid, the Indian team won the T20 World Cup title. Apart from this, the team reached the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 and also made it to the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
Suryakumar Yadav has been made the captain for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. In such a situation, it would not be wrong to say that India is going to enter an era. At the same time, former India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has praised Gambhir. He said that there is a possibility of some changes in the team under the 2011 ODI World Cup winner.

Dinesh Karthik, while talking to Cricbuzz, said, “He is a very good leader. I think he will bring two things to the Indian team. One is the fact that he is a complete players man. He protects his players, and this is very important in international cricket because, sometimes, you can feel lonely or abandoned in international cricket when the performance is not going your way. So, Gambhir is going to do that.” Dinesh Karthik further said, “And number two, he will definitely bring a smart tactical approach to this Indian team. Very fiery, intense person, and I always loved playing for the team, and I did everything possible to win the game of cricket.”

Apart from the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup, Gambhir has won two IPL trophies as a player with Kolkata Knight Riders. Later in 2024, he joined KKR as a mentor and won the trophy. Talking about the Sri Lanka tour, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain of the Indian T20 team in place of Hardik Pandya.
The three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka will start from July 27. After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from T20, it was highly expected that Hardik Pandya would take over the captaincy. But the selectors surprised everyone by appointing Surya as the captain. After the T20 series, India will take on Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Interestingly, young batsman Shubman Gill has been named the vice-captain for both the series.
