CBSE Board Exam 2025: Key Changes to Know Before Starting Class 10 and 12 Preparation

CBSE Board Exam 2025

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced changes to the question paper format for the 2025 board exams for Classes 10 and 12. These changes align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes competency-based learning.

The key takeaway is a shift towards questions that assess students’ ability to apply concepts in real-life situations. This means a higher percentage of “Competency-Based Questions” will be included in the exams.

Class 10: The proportion of competency-based questions remains the same i.e., 50% in 2025.

Class 12: Competency-based questions rise from 40% to 50% in 2025.

These questions can take various forms, including Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), case-based questions, and source-based integrated questions.

The revised format also aims to move away from rote memorisation and encourage deeper understanding. The weightage of constructed response questions (short answer and long answer) decreases slightly in both classes.
