Baltimore bridge collapse: The bridge that collapsed in the river in America; heavy casualties; A viral video

Baltimore bridge collapse:

The Baltimore (Francis Scott Key) Bridge partially collapsed when a container ship collided with it. The video of these scenes has gone viral.

The incident took place on Tuesday, March 26 at around 1.30 am local time.

An important road bridge

The Francis Scott Key Bridge, built over the Patapsco River in America, is 3 km long. It is part of the I-95 Interstate Highway. It is a major north-south highway connecting Miami, Florida, and Maine on the east coast of the United States. A cargo ship on the Patapsco River ran aground on the Patapsco River around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and collided with a pillar of the Baltimore Bridge. As a result, the Baltimore Bridge partially collapsed. On the other hand, the cargo ship caught fire after hitting the bridge.

Vehicles that fell into the river

As the Francis Scott Key Bridge partially collapsed, several vehicles plying on the bridge fell into the river. Coast Guards intervened to protect the passengers in those vehicles. The Coast Guard announced that the two passengers had been rescued. But how many vehicles fell into the river? It is not clear how many of them are traveling. But it seems that a large number of deaths have occurred. All roads leading to the bridge were closed after the bridge collapsed. With that, the traffic in that area came to a standstill.

Many may have died

Baltimore City Fire Department Communications Director Chief Kevin Cartwright told the BBC that “seven people, several vehicles” fell into the river after the Baltimore bridge collapsed. He said that multi-agency rescue operation is going on at present. He said that the death toll could be higher.
