Guwahati airport: A part of the roof outside Lok Priya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati airport) in Guwahati, Assam suddenly collapsed due to heavy rain and wind on Sunday. Although no injuries were reported in the incident, officials at the Adani Group-controlled airport were unable to continue operations as a portion of the ceiling collapsed.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing a portion of the ceiling suddenly collapsing. Passengers and airport staff were recorded running for cover on the scene. Another video showed airport staff trying to remove excess water from the premises.

The storm uprooted a large tree at the Oil India complex outside the airport. Thus, travel on the road has been restricted, Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Barua told news agency PTI.
“The roof of the building was old and could not withstand the wind speed. Due to this, the roof broke, and water started pouring in. There were no injuries in the incident, and everything is under control,” Barua claimed. Water entered the terminal from the ceiling.
“We have personally monitored the situation to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the passengers. Due to the storm and heavy rain, the visibility has deteriorated severely. Six flights had to be diverted,” he said.
Flights operated by Indigo, Air India and Air India Express have been dispatched to Agartala and Kolkata. As visibility improved, operations resumed and flights began landing at the Guwahati airport, reports said.
