The dreams of 2022 champions Gujarat Titans to play their third consecutive final has been shattered. Gujarat’s team had to win the 63rd match of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday in every match to keep their hopes alive of reaching the playoffs of IPL 2024, but due to rain, the toss could not be held in the match and the match was called off.

But even after 14 matches, the Gujarat team will not be able to reach 14 points and now it is officially out of the playoff race. Gujarat had earlier reached the finals in the last two seasons. In 2022, the team became the champion for the first time and in 2023 it lost in the final against Chennai Super Kings, but now in 2024 the team could not reach the playoffs.

At the same time, Kolkata Knight riders have already qualified for the playoffs. Gujarat team has become the third team to be out of the playoff race in IPL 2024. KKR team is now at number one with 19 points after nine wins and three losses in 13 matches. But even if it loses its 14th match, it will still finish the league stage by staying in the top 2 with 19 points.

Kolkata Knight Riders team will now play Qualifier -1 after 10 years. We will have to wait to know who Kolkata will face in Qualifier-1. The team that is in the top 2 in the points table gets two chance to reach the final. Earlier, Kolkata had finished in the top 2 in the league stage in 2012 and 2024.

Taking about the match, the toss could not take place at 7 o’ clock due to continuous lightning and light drizzle. Gradually the rain started getting heavier. The cut-off time for a match of five overs per team was 10:56, but the officials decided to cancel match due to continuous heavy rain and went outfield, which has happened for the first time in this season of IPL.

After defeating Mumbai Indians in the last match, KKR has already made it to the playoffs, Rajasthan Royals is second with 16 points from 12 matches and defending champions Chennai Super Kings are third with 14 points from 13 matches.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is fourth with 14 points from 12 matches while Royal challengers Bangalore is fifth with 12 points from 13 matches. Technically, Lucknow Super Giants is still in the playoff race with 12 points from 12 matches. Delhi Capitals is out of the race with 12 points from 13 matches.
