The pressure in the Bay of Bengal has turned into an air bubble. Cyclonic storm Remal is currently 350 km away from Sagar Island. Due to Cyclone Ramal, flights at Kolkata airport will be closed from 12 noon on Sunday to 9.00 pm i.e. till 9am on Monday. Along with this dozens of trains belonging to Eastern Railway and Southeastern Railway have been cancelled. In view of Cyclone Remal, a red alert was issued in North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly on May 26. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely at many places. Orange Alert has been declared in Nadia, West Medinipur and east Burdwan.
Kolkata airport will be closed for 21 hours due to cyclone Ramal. Due to this, no flights will depart from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata from 12 noon on Sunday to 9 am on Monday. As a result, around fifty thousand air passengers are suffering. All domestic and international flights have been suspended as a precautionary measure.

On an average, more than 300 flights depart from Kolkata airport every day. Kolkata airport Authority said that hundreds of flights were cancelled due to this incident. Apart from that, the airport authorities have been taken special precautions to avoid any damage during the storm. This cyclone formed in the Bay of Bengal will turn into a severe cyclone by the morning of May 26. It will make landfall between Sagar Island and Khepupara in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal on May 26 midnight. According to the Meteorological Department, Winds will blow at a speed of 110 to 120 kmph. Wind speed is 135 km per hour. Cyclone is likely to gust to 90 kmph in Kolkata.

Temporarily wind speed is likely to produce gusty winds of 90 kmph. orange alert is effective in West Medinipur, East Burdwan, Nadia. Also, the storm is moving at a speed of 34 to 45 km per hour. Heavy rains are likely in the rest of the southern districts. A yellow alert has been issued there. In such situations, Kolkata Airport has decided to control the movement of flights.
