Russian Oleg Kononenko 1000 Days in Space
Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko has become the first person in the world to complete 1000 days in space. In Russia, an astronaut is called a cosmonaut. Earlier this record was held by Russian cosmonaut Gennady Padalka. He spent 878 days in space.
Oleg broke his spending 1000 days in space on his fifth space mission. He also assumed responsibility as the commander of the International Space Station for the third time. His last spaceflight on an orbiting laboratory, the International Space station orbiting the Earth, took place on 15 September 2023.
He was sent to the space station by the Soyuz Amus-24 spacecraft. He was accompanied by Russian cosmonaut Nikolai Shub and NASA astronaut Loral O’Hara. Now Oleg and NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson will return to Earth in September 2024.

Oleg is a special person, said Emmanuel Rokita, former chief of NASA’s Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH). What he did was a milestone. Doing this is not everyone’s cup of tea. Now he has to spend a few more months in space. After Oleg’s return, these five things will be studied.
Urukita studies the bodies of astronauts who have spent different of time in space. We can find these five things… The first is how much impact does communication have on people who live far from Earth? What is the effect of radiation? What effect does live alone and in a closed space have on the body and mind? The effect of gravity, the effect of living in a closed environment on the body? Will Oleg’s body and mind reveal many new things? Investigations will be conducted on those issues.
