Center has taken a key decision regarding NEET-UG 2024. More than 1500 students who got grace marks due to wasting time in the exam center. It said that those grace marks are being removed. The students were given two options. One of them is retaking the exam. Second, after removal of grace marks, attend counseling with same marks. Students can choose any these two options.

We will remove the gray marks

The center told the Supreme Court on Thursday that it has decided to remove the grace marks from more than 1500 students who got grace marks due to wasting time in the examination center. With that, the Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the petitions challenging the granting of grace marks by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to the students. The court said that the counselling process of admissions will not be stayed. Counsel for the Center and NTA told the vacation bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta that the students who got grace marks will be given an opportunity to re-sit the exam.

RE test on June 23

The grace marks of 1,563 students who got grace marks in NEET UG 2024 (NEET UG 2024) will be removed and re-test will be conducted on 23rd of this month. The Supreme Court allowed the NTA to cancel the score cards of those students. Original score cards (without grace marks) of those who do not wish to appear for re-examination will be considered.

Counseling from 6th July

The NTA informed the Supreme Court that the re-test results will be declared by June 30 to facilitate the counseling process, which will begin from July 6. Among the petitions filed alleging irregularities in the conduct of the NEET exam was one filed by Physics Wala CEO Alakh Pandey.

Attendance of 24 lakh students

On May 5, 24 lakh candidates appeared for the NEET UG 2024 examination conducted by NTA in 4,750 centers across the country and abroad. The results were expected to be released on June 14 but were announced on June 4 as the evaluation of answer sheets was completed earlier. Petitions have been filed in seven high courts and the Supreme Court alleging leakage of question papers and giving grace marks to more than 1,500 medical candidates.

Top score for 67 students

67 students scored 720 marks which is unprecedented in the history of NTA, including six from an examination center in Haryana’s Faridabad. Many students protested in Delhi on June 10 demanding an inquiry into the irregularities. It is alleged that 67 students got top rank due to grace marks. NTA conducts the NEET-UG exam for admissions in MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other courses related to government and private institutions across the country.
