The judicial custody of Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has been extended till July 18. Darshan is the prime accused in the case. On June 22, Darshan and the other accused were sent to judicial custody till July 4.

So far, 17 people have been arrested in the case, including Darshan and his close friend Pavitra Gowda. Renuka Swamy, 33, was killed for sharing obscene messages about Gowda on social media. Pavitra is believed to have instigated Darshan to punish Renuka Swamy.

According to the Karnataka police investigation, Swamy was held captive in a shed in Bengaluru, given electric shocks and beaten up. His body was found near a storm drain on June 9. A food delivery boy had alerted the police after seeing dogs eating human carcasses.

Swamy was abducted from his home in Chitradurga on June 8 by Darshan’s assistants. Pavitra Gowda is also believed to have been present when the victim was tortured in the shed. Swamy died of “shock hemorrhage due to multiple blunt injuries”, the autopsy report revealed.

According to a remand copy accessed by Times Now, the plot to destroy Swamy’s body was hatched in Darshan’s room in a five-star hotel.

The police recovered ₹37.4 lakh in a bag from the actor’s house. According to the remand copy, the police also recovered ₹4.5 lakh from the house of the head of Darshan’s fan association. Raghuvendra, who is part of the actor’s fan club in Chitradurga, had brought the victim to a shed in RR Nagar saying that Darshan wanted to meet him. This is the same shed where he was tortured and murdered.
