On the very first day of James Anderson’s farewell test being played at Lord’s, host England took a lead of 68 runs in the first innings over West Indies by the end of the day’s play. England won the toss and decided to bowl first and bowled out West Indies for 121 runs in 41.4 overs in the second session.

Debutant Gus Atkinson took seven wickets. After this, England came out to bat and scored 189 runs for the loss of 3 wickets till the end of the day’s play. Joe Root is unbeaten on 15 and Harry Brook on 25.

West Indies team collapsed on 121 runs

England came out to bowl first and wreaked havoc on West Indies on the basis of Gus Atkinson’s devastating bowling. West Indies had scored 61 runs for 3 wickets in 28 overs till lunch. But in the second session, at the score of 88, West Indies lost 4 wickets without adding any runs and its score became 6 wickets for 88 runs. After this, the whole team collapsed on 121 runs. Michael Lewis scored the highest 27 runs for West Indies. At the same time, Kavem Hodge scored 24 and Alick Athanaze scored 23 runs. Atkinson took 7 wickets for 45 runs. James Anderson took 1 wicket for 26 runs in the first innings of the farewell Test. Chris Woakes and Ben Stokes got one success each.

Ollie Pope and Jack Crowley gave the lead

After bowling out West Indies for 121 runs, England got off to a bad start. Ben Duckett got caught by Seals after scoring 3 runs. After this, Jack Crowley and Ollie Pope took over the innings. Both took the team to 30 runs for 1 wicket till teatime. Both batted fiercely in the third session and took the team past 100 runs and completed their half-centuries. But Pope was LBW off Jason Holder after scoring 57 runs off 74 balls. After this, Crowley was bowled by Seals after scoring 76 runs on the score of 153. By the end of the day’s play, England have scored 189 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Joe Root is unbeaten on 15 and Harry Brook on 25.
