Telugu states are reeling with heavy rains. More than 20 people have died due to heavy rains in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh since late night on Saturday.

Due to rain, many areas were waterlogged and road and railway traffic stopped. Connection with many hinterlands is completely severed.

National and state disaster response forces are evacuating thousands of people to relief camps as rivers rise in both states. But many people are still waiting for help.

On the other hand, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that there is a possibility of more rain in many districts of the two states, adding to the fear of the people.

Rain situation in Telangana-Andhra Pradesh…

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over the phone. He promised to provide all kinds of assistance from the central government.
  2. State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that 9 people died across the state due to rains. On the other hand, the local authorities have moved the people of many flooded villages in Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad and Khammam districts to safer places.
  3. Telangana CM Revanth Reddy has conducted an emergency review and is keeping abreast of the situation from time to time. On the other hand, many parts of the city were flooded due to heavy rain in Hyderabad. On September 2, the authorities closed all the schools in the district. Many people were trapped on the roofs due to standing water in Khamma.

  1. The situation is likely to become more alarming in some districts of Telangana. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert on Sunday for heavy to very heavy rains in Telangana’s Adilabad, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sirisilla, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Kamareddy and Mahbubnagar districts on September 2 till 8.30 am. Rains are likely to continue even after that.
  2. There is a possibility of heavy rains in many parts of Andhra Pradesh. Heavy rains are expected in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitamaraju, Kakinada and Nandyala districts.
  3. AP CM Chandrababu Naidu said that the cities of Vijayawada and Guntur were completely submerged. The Vijayawada-Guntur National Highway at Kaja and the Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway at Jaggaiyapet were submerged. Jaggaiyapet recorded 26 cm rainfall in 24 hours while 14 mandals recorded 20 cm rainfall.
  4. The CM said that the flood water which was supposed to be diverted to Kolleru lake is diverting towards Vijayawada. He said that security is being set up below the Prakasam barrage with sandbags and other means and the district collectors have been alerted.
  5. Chandrababu Naidu said that 17 thousand people have been moved to 107 relief camps in the wake of Andhra Pradesh rains. He said 1.1 lakh hectares of agricultural fields and 7,360 hectares of horticultural crops were damaged.
  6. South Central Railway zone including Vijayawada division canceled 140 trains and diverted another 97 trains on Sunday.
  7. The central government has deployed 26 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams for flood relief operations in the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Already 12 teams have been deployed in two neighboring states and another 14 teams are being sent.
  8. Conditions on the ground are even more dire. Major cities in both states were inundated by floodwaters. In many buildings, the ground floor is submerged in water. People are taking shelter on the upper floors fearing for their lives. Due to the lack of electricity, they are having trouble charging their phones. Food is also waiting for help.
